A commedia-cinema-experience is the joy of going to the cinema and be able to talk to the characters and interfere with the story on screen, creating a direct communication with the characters.
Commedia-cinema is an interactive experience in a cinema-room. What the audience get is a mix of cinema- and theatre-experience. The projected images on the cinemascreen is created i realtime by actors controlling 2D- or 3D-characters with motion capture. Backgrounds, visual effects, audio and musik, and recorded film sequences are mixed together with the mocap-characters in realtime.
The realtime-technique is being merged together with the 500-year old tradition of Commedia dell´Arte and its offsprings clowning. These scenic artforms depend heavely on improvisation and an active relationship to the audience.
Workprocess
A story is to be told, just like traditional film and theater. But just as in commedia in the theatre and on streets, the characters and circumstances are a bit to chaotic, dumb and funny to play the story perfect. Things keep going wrong, the audience keeps interfering and so on. Suddenly, the relationship between the audience and the characters on screen are more important than the story. But, in the end, it all end happily, both the filmstory and show!
Children
This concept depends on an active audience. That is hard to reach with adults and very easy to get with children, making commedia-cinema ideal for children. They can come and meet the characters and see their favorit story they have gotten to know at home on their tv, but know ”in real life” and be able to interact with the experience. Anyone who has ever played theatre for small children knows how active and invelved they can become in a story, shouting different advices and such to the characters on stage. Lets raise a new generation of active cinema-audience!
